Expectations

Expectations:

Coaches:

• To be fully engaged in improving each playerʼs tennis skills, knowing their goals and helping each individual player meet their goals and the teamʼs goals, and to have the teamʼs and playerʼs best interest as our top priority.

• We are here for the players and to help them grow as individuals in all areas of life (responsibility, effort, hardwork, lasting relationships, how to communicate, perseverance), not just on the tennis court.

Players:
• To come fully present to practice ready to focus on yourself as a tennis player and

your teammates, you must be at every practice (unless you are sick, there is a death, or you have talked to coach about it prior to being gone).

• You must let coach know if you have a conflict with the schedule as soon as possible.

• Come to practice and matches ready to learn something new and work hard towards reaching your goals and teams goals.

• Be a respectful, responsible, and hard working teammate, opponent/player, and student-athlete. You are representing the school and setting the tone for who you are. Be your best self and show pride in the image of your school!

Parents:
• Encourage your children to work hard at reaching their goals during the tennis

season.
• If you have a concern about a player, coach, or situation to respectfully and

responsibly have a conversation with one of the coaches about your concerns, please set a time up with us to do so on a non-match day.

• Come to a coach first before you go to anyone else, conflicts can usually be resolved quicker and better by explaining to your own coach.

• Please encourage your child to come to the coach if they havenʼt done so already, it builds character to bring up topics that we may not be comfortable handling on our own. I understand sometimes parents need to step in, encourage your child to handle situations on their own first.

• To be respectful of coachʼs decisions, understanding they are choosing what is best for the team and your child.

Student athlete priorities:

  1. Academics-School work comes first, if you are behind in a subject donʼt be afraid to

seek help from your coach or teammates on how to get your grades up.

  2. Tennis-work hard on and off the court no matter your mood or the drill, you can

always improve with hard work! School work and grades will always comes first.

  3. Social Life-tennis practice is only two hours of your day, make it a priority for the 8

weeks we are in season, you will see your hard work pay off!

Practice Expectations:
-Be on time and at every practice and match!

That means shoes tied, equipment out, phones away…ready to focus on the short amount of time we have together as a team for the day, putting everything else aside – focusing on becoming a better player and being together as a team.

-Be an asset to all teammates!
Help each other by giving your best effort everyday, push and encourage each other, be supportive of everyone, have a positive attitude, set a good example

-Bring water and wear shorts with pockets or a tennis skirt. Please keep a notebook in your tennis bag to track your goals. Every varsity player will need to also have a jump rope.

Match Expectations:
-Same expectations apply as practice
-Treat your opponents with respect and be an encourager to your teammates
-Be well-mannered while traveling and hosting teams, we are representing our school by our behavior and making an impression with our positive well polished image. -Arrive in proper team uniform, when you look and show up like a team you play like a team for your team!

-Everyone must order and wear the team uniform top the captains have chosen for the year-which will be paid in fee pay, varsity is required to wear black lululemon skirt (watch for an email from captains about a group order), JV can wear any black short or black skirt.

-There will also be optional clothing to purchase from our rep BSN. You will receive a link, if an item says “required” this means it is for the team only. It is not technically required to purchase but what the girls will wear to matches if decided to purchase. The window to purchase any additional clothing this year will only be for one day, in order to get clothing before the season is over. https://www.bsnteamsports.com/shop/wblgten20

-Matches are done when all positions/players have completed their match, do not leave until we have gathered as a team and recapped the match.
-Cheer on your teammates when you are done with your individual match.

Golden Rule: Play every ball like it is coming back!
